Resolutions: What changed in the fashion industry the previous year

Personally, I have a ton of things that changed in 2018 to discuss with you. Thank your god, that this article is all about things that have changed in the fashion industry during 2018 and we would be glad to see them changing the following years. Let’s discuss some of them.

#1 DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

In my opinion, the best place to see what’s about to change in our industry is a fashion week. Every fashion week portrays the social and political changes, through the catwalks and the new designer collections. I will never forget this year’s Ashish show during London Fashion Week on September. It was a big ass party for the queer and the neglected -for those who a magazine would never make them a cover. It was the first time of my life that I felt that it is our duty to celebrate every kind of people – regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and more. Additionally, this year the CFDA is committed to diversity and inclusion. They announced that they will work on programs to implement more paths for all people. Let’s see what America will bring on the table.

#2 BODY POSITIVITY

For me “body positivity” is all about accepting your body not only for its weight but for its shape, texture, color, needs, and abilities too. So aside from the fact that this year more and more brands expanding their sizes (applause) and more and more campaigns present plus-size models, customers this year have begun to show a preference for “real women”! As for me, I still remember the STEVENTAI presentation at the Shop at Bluebird in London during FW19 Fashion Week. It wasn’t just the collection, but the models themselves -stunning in a different way.

#3 SUSTAINABILITY

As stated in Lyst’s Year in Fashion report, throughout 2018 there was a 47 percent increase in sustainable keyword searches such as “vegan leather” and “organic cotton”, while posts on Instagram tagged #sustainablefashion now top out at 2.8 million. One could say that Google searches and Instagram analytics are fun facts, considering that the clothing industry is still the second most polluting industry after oil. We say it is a start.

Cheers to a new year, full of surprises!
