We are sure you can describe with all the details how it feels when someone cries out “I have nothing to wear!”. Does this often happen to you? I used to have days like this too -wandering in front of the closet “What to wear?” as if I was waiting for a response. So today I am going to share with you my insights as a professional stylist, why is this happening to you.
A. Lack of essential “basics”
Things like a -or two- white t-shirt, a grey and a black one, all made of good quality materials and ideally made by a sustainable small brand, are the first things you have to buy. A pair of black jeans, a black blazer or a vegan leather perfecto, are those key pieces that will blend easily with everything you already have in your wardrobe.
B. Shopping aimlessly
Those “shopping therapy” days with your girlfriends, need to stop. Also the “It’s a bargain!” during the sales period, must stop too. Shopping aimlessly, just because something is ridiculously cheap, is not a good style advisor. You will end up with a bunch of clothes you do not need and actually don’t match each other. And who can style all this wildness?
C. Shopping a lot of trendy pieces
This follows as a result from the previous fact. At the end of each season the clothes that are on sale, are those which were trendy, but they are not anymore. You don’t want to be out of date. Do you? No one likes a closet full of things of no use. Unless you don’t believe in trends (we support you), we suggest you keep your closet basic or plan what you need to buy, according to what you already have.
D. Buying almost identical items
I don’t find that too bad actually. I do that too because I know what works for me. But you know, three similar taupe sweaters…Who does that anymore? So the next time you are going to buy this cute top, ask yourself if you already have one similar, or if you really need that. Less fuzz more style, I promise.
E. Clothes that don’t fit properly
If you don’t feel nice in your jeans, chances are that you will avoid to put them on. Or else, if you are one of those people who think about keeping clothes that don’t fit in anymore, chances are that every-time you open your closet, you will get upset and won’t really have the attitude to put the daily outfit together. Thus, keep in your closet only the clothes that you enjoy to wear and fit you. That way you can’t go wrong.
F. YOU HAVE TOO MANY CLOTHES
Last but most important –your closet is overloaded. Maybe you ought to do a closet clean-up and give away or donate your extra clothes. Keep only those you like, enjoy wearing and fit you perfectly. What is the point of keeping stuff you don’t like or wear anymore? The fewer, the better-it helps a lot when it comes to styling. And remember, you have to see everything when you open your closet.
That have been said, having fewer clothes make it easier for you to put an outfit together. Give emphasis to the basics, don’t go for “shopping therapy”, clean up and donate your extra clothes.
